Graduation 2011

Graduation 2011
April 19, 2011 Poveda Foundation
This is a competitive world. True! Hence we need to teach our kids to compete not with others but with themselves. And that internal competitiveness became the theme for our year end Graduation- Growth.

Held on Saturday 9th April on the Poveda Kids Lawns in the presence of the parents and children from both centres and the nursery, the sponsors and friends of Poveda Foundation, the evening celebrated the academic growth demonstrated by the children.

Compered by Raziya from the Morwadi Centre and Reshma from the Chinchwad Gaon centre, the evening saw the nursery kids lead everyone in the National Anthem and amuse everyone with their action songs. Ishwarya, the teacher at the Nursery then explicated the methodology followed at the nursery and the weekly learning schedule.

Swati didi, the Math and Science teacher at both centres threw light on the challenges of teaching the children and what has be done this year in class. The kids from Morwadi presented a drama on the different sources of pollution in their community and elicited their parents support in keeping the community clean. Anita from Vetalnagar beautifully rendered ‘Que Sera Sera’ while her classmates enacted the song. The girls at the end of the performance expressed their discontent with the defeatist nature of the song and shared what their own career aspirations were.

Later the children from both centres danced to the tune of Ale.

Reeves bhaiyya then spoke. The Poveda Kids Nursery was started as a means of self sustenance and hence its motto says educate your child and others. The little that the nursery is able to raise through fees in the future will be directed towards the huge expenses of the centres for underserved children. That the children from both centres and the nursery will interact at sometime is inevitable and critical to the coherence of the organization.

The centres made a 20.85% increment in their science scores this year but dropped by 12% in math.
