AFTER SCHOOL LEARNING CENTRE
Measurable Academic Success
The very first program of Poveda was 2 after school learning centres in 2009 for children from grade 7 studying in vernacular government or low end private schools. It was a 4 year program with a goal to improve the student’s scores by 15% in grade 10 in English, Math and Science. Daily classes for two and a half hours, weekly assessments and reviews, remedial classes for those in need, individual and group projects, constant interactions with corporate groups and a variety of exposure trips helped us deliver on this goal. All students passed grade 10 with a 15% increment not just in the subjects we taught, but an overall 15% increment.
Poveda followed up with the students through their junior college, offering them more academic assistance in Maths, Science and Accounts.

COMPUTER CLASS
Fearless Learning
Computer Class has been one of the longest running programs at Poveda. Started in 2010 by a volunteer, and now our Board member- Rahul bhaiyya, computer classes on Sundays gave the students from the bastis the opportunity to actually use a laptop/ computer first hand and not merely see it as they usually do in school. Children have been encouraged to try and to make mistakes and to experiment as they learn and work on their projects.
Computer Class has been run purely on the basis of the availability of a volunteer or group of volunteers. We have had a team of volunteers from Druva and a team of students from PCCOE run the last two batches. All our laptops have been donated to us over a period of time by different corporates.
SPORTS
Engaging the Community
Sports at Poveda was first offered in 2010 to the students of the after-school learning centres on Saturdays. Several football and cricket matches were held in those years between the Poveda students and adult volunteers.
Later, we introduced sports to the boys of an orphanage in Nasrapur.
A year later, Poveda taught sports to the students of a primary Zilla Parishad School in Bhor.

TUITION
Bridging the Inequality Gap
The pandemic left an ever-increasing gap in the academic progress of children from low-income communities. To help bridge this gap and bring kids to par, and at the request of parents whose children studied with us at Poveda Kids, the foundation offered tuition classes for a year in Mohannagar.
