Beyond the Surface
Reclaiming the heart of education through excellence and love
If there is one thing that can change the lives of the poor in India, it is access to good education. This has been the core belief of Poveda since its inception in 2009. First through its afterschool learning centres, then through the kindergarten, computer class, teacher training projects and most recently through the classes in spoken English for children from village schools, Poveda strives to create a culture of excellence and love in all its projects. Both excellence and love are not achieved overnight, nor are they an end in itself.
Both excellence and love demand a consistent commitment and motivation for something bigger, something better, something brighter than the present moment.
16 years on, the divide between those who have access and those who do not have, is wider than before. It is no longer only access to good and solid education in its holistic sense, but the pseudo ‘need’ of everything that comes with these so-called islands of ‘excellence.’ The outer unending fancies of clothes, footwear, technology, lifestyle is replacing the very core of what a true learning eco system is.
